Rocky Top Finds Home Sweet Home in IdeaBang

May 03, 2011

NASHVILLE, TN -- In a joint announcement today, Nashville based product development company IdeaBang, LLC and award winning publishing company House of Bryant Publications, LLC have confirmed the launch of a multi-year licensing agreement to develop and extend the Official Rocky Top brand. The internationally recognized song "Rocky Top" is currently an official state song of Tennessee and has been covered by a plethora of performers from superstar Dolly Parton to The University of Tennessee 'Pride of the Southland' band to the alt/rock group Phish.

"We have been licensing the Rocky Top mark since the late 1970s for various quality products," remarks Dane Bryant of The House of Bryant. "We are now proud to be working with IdeaBang and expanding the Official Rocky Top brand as it continues to influence new generations."Rocky Top," was written by legendary songwriters Felice and Boudleaux Bryant in 1967 and recorded by the Osborne Brothers that same year. It became wildly popular in 1970 when Lynn Anderson recorded her version of it and in 2005, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution ranked "Rocky Top" number seven on its list of 100 Songs of the South. According to media reports, "Rocky Top" is used to refer to East Tennessee, the city of Knoxville, and the University of Tennessee where the song is known as their unofficial fight song.

"The Bryant family history and influence on modern popular music is legendary," states IdeaBang owner Scott Rouse. "Dane and Del Bryant immediately recognized my passion and vision for the Official Rocky Top brand potential. The Bryant brothers bring the same creativity inherited from their prolific parents into everything they do with 'Rocky Top.' IdeaBang marketing plans are being finalized to launch late summer in the Knoxville area. Be watching for innovative new patented products and more."

Rouse, a producer of numerous multi-platinum albums, helmed Rocky Top '96 (1996), a recording that included a remix of the title song for Decca Records at the urging of Decca president Mark Wright. Today, Rouse's 'Rocky Top' remix receives more airplay than the original version. More importantly, "It sparked an idea of what the brand might become," according to Rouse. "This week's announcement validates that every idea has its time."
