Mundelein Orthodontist is Diplomate of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry

The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Orthodontics are the only certifying boards recognized by the American Dental Association, according to Dr. David Maddox, a pediatric dentist. Mundelein doctor James Orbon said dental specialists who complete and pass the certification process for that board are considered Diplomates. Orbon, a Mundelein kids' dentist, said that he, Maddox and Dr. Cameron Wagner were three of only 74 pediatric dentists in Illinois that were Diplomates on the ABPD roster, as of May. According to the ABPD website, certification is based on standards of excellence that lead to high-quality oral health care for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs. "Being certified by the ABPD shows that the Diplomate has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process," said Wagner, Mundelein children's dentist. "The goal is to let the public know that this doctor has the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to provide high caliber patient care." The certification for the American Board of Orthodontics is a similar, voluntary process and distinguishing honor when achieved, according to Dr. Gary Klein, an orthodontist at the practice that offers Invisalign. Mundelein patients can look for the Diplomate status of doctors to see if they have committed to the continued pursuit of proficiency and excellence, said the Mundelein braces provider. "Not every specialist has the distinction of being a Diplomate," said Dr. Richard Port, Mundelein orthodontist, who is also board certified as a pediatric dentist. "We wanted our practice and our doctors to stand out among the best in our specialties." The fact that all the doctors at the Mundelein orthodontics and pediatric dentistry practice are board certified is not a coincidence, according to Wagner.
