Early Childhood Examinations Offered by Las Vegas Orthodontist
Oct 21, 2010
LAS VEGAS, NV -- Beginning orthodontic treatment at the best possible time gives you the best possible outcome and the shortest time in treatment, explains Dr. David Alpan, a Las Vegas orthodontist. The first orthodontic exam should be by age seven, says the American Association of Orthodontists - although if problems are noted, it can be earlier.
Children's initial adult molars begin to come in at age 7 and develop the back bite, observes Dr. Alpan, a Las Vegas invisible braces specialist. At that first appointment, the orthodontist inspects the child's front-to-back and side-to-side bites to detect any issues. For example, emerging incisors can suggest a potential overbite, open bite, crowding, or gummy smiles.
"Early examinations allow for timely detection of approaching problems and increase the chances for successful care," notes Dr. Alpan, a Las Vegas Invisalign expert. "If you intervene at the optimal time, you can guide tooth growth and avoid serious difficulties later on."
Aesthetic issues are not the only cause of braces. Bad teeth influence how you smile, chew, brush and feel about yourself. "Correcting a poor bite is a vital step in improving your future oral health," says Dr. Alpan, a Las Vegas NV braces provider.
"Younger patients sometimes aren't ready for orthodontics," explains Dr. Alpan, a Las Vegas orthodontics specialist. "Then we will observe the child's development in regular office visits. That way we can note the optimal time to begin care."
