Carmichael Celebrates the United Nations International Day of Peace

Sep 15, 2014

CARMICHAEL, CA -- Our 4th Annual Day of Peace Event will be held from 10am-4pm at Carmichael Park, 5750 Grant Ave & Fair Oaks Blvd in Carmichael. The non profit for our event will be Pathways for Veterans. Founder, Gary Ferguson, a Vietnam Veteran, will be speaking at all three locations. Kate Woolley, Vice-President, Board of Directors at United Nations Association Sacramento Chapter will also speak at all three locations. Kate will be reading the current statement by Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations.

We will join with other people around the world in celebrating this time of joining together in peace. Our Carmichael location is a free, interactive family event, filled with live music, yoga, over 30 vendors, Farmer's Market and food including Trader Joe's, Round Table, KIND Snacks, Pinkberry, and nonprofits including Sacramento/Bethlehem, Trevor's eco-education Foundation, Clarity Academy, Peace Alliance, and the Tuskegee Airmen, each sharing what they are doing to make the world a better place. Carmichael Park will have a wide variety of dance and movement celebrating all cultures with free Yoga, West African Drumming and dance with Tyehimba along with Sawako Ama's Uzume Tribal Bellydance Troupe. Our music lineup includes Orenda Blu, Ava Lemert, Joaquin Fioresi, Kellyann Conway, Hawk Tennis, Debra Kahan, and Anthony Young.

We are proud to announce that at 2pm, when over 1,000 people will be joining hands around the State Capitol, Carmichael Park will simultaneously have Fumi Johns Stewart of WorldPeace.org, along with Captain Renee Marie, leading the World Flag and Peace Pole Dedication Ceremony.

Joining with the Global March for Peace, we will have our Shoe Labyrinth, created by Sue Anne Foster PhD. This year, we will be donating the shoes after the event to the 2,700+ students of San Juan Unified School District who are living in transition or lacking a 'fixed, regular, and adequate night-time residence'. Our event will also have Paul Mitchell Sacramento School who donated haircuts to San Juan's students. They will be offering haircuts by donation to raise funds for WEAVE. Oso Tama's 'Power Plant' made from solar panels will allow people to charge their cell phones with solar power!

Dr Katherine Bisharat will share with the community the foundation of her nonprofit Inspired Medicine being a HealthyBody, QuietMind, PeacefulHeart. She will be announcing her new Holistic Hospice Program which will support individuals and families going through life transition. Dr Bisharat's SAHA Wellness and Yoga Center now offers Yoga Therapy to the community. Other Yoga studios include, AHA Yoga, Yoga SHALA and Joyful Warrior. Laura Hansen of the Divine Spark Center for Joyful Renewal will close our ceremony with the Spiral Hug.
